Legacies

Why leave a legacy to the MBF?

Remember a Charity

Over 50% of the MBF's annual income is derived from legacies, enabling us to maintain our important work. We regard legacy gifts from musicians and music lovers as the final round of applause.

Making your will

There are two main types of legacy: residuary, which is the remainder of your estate or a portion thereof after tax and any other expenses have been paid, and pecuniary, which is a specific amount.

Legacies of royalties or copyrights are particularly valuable, as are bequests of property. All such gifts to the MBF are exempt from Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax.

Some suggested wording for your will is provided here, but we advise you to consult a solicitor. This need not be expensive.

Residuary “I give all my property not otherwise disposed of by this my Will subject to and after payment of my funeral and testamentary expenses to the Musicians Benevolent Fund for the general purposes thereof, and the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being thereof shall be sufficient”

Pecuniary “I give to the Musicians Benevolent Fund the sum of [in words] free of duty for the general purposes thereof, and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being thereof shall be sufficient discharge of the same”
