listening to musicians - responding to their needs
We understand that moving into residential care is a very big step.
We want to make this transition as easy as we can so that you will enjoy life to the full and retain your independence in a caring environment. We invite all prospective residents to come and have an informal look around before making any decisions. We also offer musicians, their dependents and those from allied occupations a four-week trial period at the MBF's expense. This gives you the opportunity to experience the reality of life in a residential home and to discuss any questions you may have. Our staff are there to help and we have listed some of the most often asked questions at the bottom of this page.Ivor Newton House is run on a non-profit making basis which is why the fees are reasonable. Depending on their circumstances, professional musicians and their dependants are helped with fees by the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
Music plays a large part in the life of Ivor Newton House. Most of the residents are retired musicians or the partners of musicians. There is a well appointed music room with two pianos for residents‘ use. There is also a Steinway Grand in the lounge and short recitals are frequently given both by students and professional musicians.Residents’ rooms have en suite facilities. Anyone who becomes more frail can be provided with assisted baths. All rooms are furnished to a high standard although new residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture to create familiar surroundings.
If you would like to find out more about Ivor Newton House you are most welcome to go there for an informal visit. Please contact the Head of Home to arrange a mutually convenient time. If you would like to become a resident, we ask for some personal details and a financial assessment. We will also write to your GP for a medical report. To obtain a form, please contact our Casework Department (casework@mbf.org.uk) at the MBF's London office.
