About Us

The MBF is the music business's own charity - the largest in the UK, helping around 1,500 people of any age and in any area of the music business who are in need as a result of illness, accident or other misfortune. Each case is treated individually and in the strictest of confidence.

The MBF will do all in its power to enable beneficiaries to resume their careers; when this is not possible it can help in a number of ways. Trained visitors can call on beneficiaries in their own homes to assess their needs and to offer practical help and advice. Ivor Newton House, the MBF's residential home in Bromley, offers relaxed and comfortable surroundings for musicians and music lovers alike.

The MBF also works closely with other charities and gives substantial financial help and support to the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine.

In addition, the MBF has an ever-expanding and important music education role, centred on providing financial support to outstandingly talented instrumentalists and singers in the final stages of study. Funding is also awarded to organisations which provide advanced training and performance opportunities to outstanding young musicians. In 2003, the MBF also launched an online Funding Wizard, which provides information about the MBF's awards and many others.

The MBF is funded entirely by donations and bequests from music lovers and musicians. Every grant made is meant, not as charity, but as an expression of thanks from music lovers to those who have dedicated their lives to creating music.
